A small farm on a green hillside in FarmFolk: a barn, a silo, a well, two houses and a wheat field on a six-by-six plot, with a delivery truck on the road.

A farming and town-building game

FarmFolk

Build a town out of an empty field.

Plant wheat, mill it into flour, bake it into bread and sell it to grow your land. Free to play in your browser.

In development. Playable now, and growing.

The idea

Start with an empty field.

You begin with a small plot of land, a little FolkGold and a clear patch of ground. A wheat field costs very little. A barn keeps what it grows. A road makes everything faster.

From there it is a loop you build yourself: grow, store, process, sell, expand. Wheat becomes flour, flour becomes bread, and bread pays for the next piece of land.

Nothing is teleported. Workers carry goods from building to building, so where you put things, and how you connect them, is the whole game.

Your first farm: a small plot to grow from. The yellow outlines show land you can buy.
The build catalogue open along the bottom of the screen, with categories from Farming and Forestry to Housing and Infrastructure, and buildings such as a crop field, chicken coop, cow barn and sawmill.

Inspecting a tile: the panel reads Fertile Soil, owned, fertility rich, with a Build here button, beside a farm ringed by woodland.
Click any tile to see what it is, whether it is yours and how fertile it is.

What it is

A town that runs on what you make.

  • A chain of production

Grow wheat, mill it into flour, bake it into bread, and sell it. Corn, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes, animals, a sawmill, a dairy and a cannery follow.

  • Goods are really carried

There is no magic stockpile. Workers walk goods between your buildings, so roads, distance and a river that needs a bridge all matter.

  • Buy land and grow outward

Start on a small plot and buy the land around it, tile by tile. Every building needs all of its tiles to be yours.

  • A world of islands

Each world is generated from a seed: islands with coasts, rivers, lakes, forests and hills, and sixteen kinds of terrain to farm or build on.

  • A wide catalogue of buildings

Farming, forestry, industry, commerce, storage, housing, town, infrastructure and utility buildings, from a well to a town hall.

  • Plays in your browser

No install and no wallet. Play without an account, or create one so your farm is kept safe if the browser forgets it.

Before you play

Good to know.

  • The first load is big

The game and its world come to roughly 20 MB, because the whole thing runs in your browser. After that it starts quickly.

  • Best on a computer

You pan with left-drag, orbit with right-drag and zoom with the wheel, so a mouse and keyboard are the natural fit.

  • Saves and accounts

Your farm saves in your browser. An account is optional, and keeps your farm safe if this browser ever forgets it.
